This past February, I started a new job as Director of Sales Operations at Thinfilm Electronics in San Jose, California. Thinfilm makes electronics through a fundamentally new printing process rather than semiconductor fabrication, giving us a cost-per-function advantage unmatched by any other electronic technology. Currently, we are ramping up our production and sales efforts to meet strong market demand. Because of our growth, we needed to get a tracking system in place to manage several key functions that were not being addressed in our legacy business systems. These processes were either managed in spreadsheets or email, without any visibility to queue times, or ability for self service. Worse, the data was not archived properly and it was difficult to go back and validate prior issues. Most critically, we are a young, lean company so we needed something that could be deployed very quickly, and without a huge start-up cost.
Leveraging my prior relationship with Alcea, I immediately recognized a perfect opportunity for the FIT application. We needed a tool to track our Support Requests, Sample requests, as well as our Sales Order Queue. Working with Jon Simpson (Sr. Developer for Alcea), we were able to get this up and running within a couple of weeks. The FIT tool gave us a whole new level of visibility, automation, and traceability that we did not have in place before. It truly changed the level of support and quality that we are able to provide to our sales and production teams. User adoption has been outstanding and I’ve had zero resistance in people using the tool. It is amazing to see how quickly FIT has become such an integral part of our business. Even better, I recently had an internal audit, and our Quality director was very impressed at all our processes managed by FIT.
Alcea is one of the best vendors I’ve ever had the chance to work with. They are flexible, extremely responsive, and very supportive. Their uptime is superb, and the personal care and attention that I’ve received over the years makes me know that Alcea values their customers. The FIT software platform is intuitive and a breeze to administer. Most importantly, everyone from Alcea is a pleasure to work with, and I’m continually amazed at their ability to make even the most complicated of my requests simple and easy to manage.
